Officer Nominees Announced

Elections for Vice Chair/Chair-elect and Secretary/Treasury will run from October 17, 2022–October 31, 2022. Below, please find the candidate biographies for the nominees.

Vice Chair/Chair-elect

Charles Roush is the Assessment Librarian at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He also provides library support to the School of Music at UTRGV. Charles holds a master’s degree in Clarinet Performance, as well as degrees in Library Science and Information Science. He has worked in libraries full-time since 2014, and he absolutely loves working with UTRGV’s students and faculty. Charles has been active in MLA since 2015, most recently having served on MLA’s Strategic Plan Task Force. He especially liked working on MLA’s new Strategic Plan, as it offered a chance to bring an Assessment focus to the world of Music Librarianship.

Kendra Preston Leonard is the founder and Executive Director of the Silent Film Sound and Music Archive and the founder and manager of the Julia Perry Working Group. Based in Humble, she is interested in open access publishing and repositories, the digital humanities and digital collections, and, in particular, music for and related to silent film. She is the author of Music for Silent Film: A Guide to North American Resources (A-R/MLA); An Index to The Tuneful Yankee and Melody Magazine  (Humanities Commons), research for which was supported by the MLA’s Dena Epstein Award for Archival and Library Research. Her goals for TMLA are to establish practices for hybrid meetings, making the format standard for meetings; finding ways of offering more financial support, including grants for travel, childcare, eldercare, and other costs that make participation prohibitive, especially for contingent, disabled, and/or underemployed members; and further an atmosphere of safety and support within the Association for all members.

Secretary/Treasurer

Beth Farwell serves as the Director for the Arts and Special Collections Research Center.  The Center provides services and collections for research in fine arts and the rare collections housed in Moody Library.  She has worked for Baylor Libraries over 25 years and is the liaison to the School of Music and Museum Studies Department.  She served for three years on the Amigos Library Services Board as treasurer.  Ms. Farwell holds a MLIS in Library and Information Science and MM from the University of Texas in Austin, and a BM from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.  Interests include teaching with rare music resources, music and information literacy applications, and best practice on how to manage lots of stuff.
